Seeing the World through Performing

  Born and raised in Hong Kong before 1997, Siuman became interested in performing arts when she first saw Anita Mui's concert, a legendary pop star in Hong Kong, in VHS back in the early 90s. She started singing and dancing at home, holding daily concerts, and was soon discovered by her primary school's principal. Her principal invited her to an open casting for a local musical performance in the summer, and she won her first acting role in a professional musical production. Ever since participating in musical performances had become her main summer activity, and her passion for theatre became stronger and stronger.

   Although she was already acting in local film and TV productions at a young age, she decided to broaden her horizon by going abroad. She received her first scholarship and went to study in United World College of the Adriatic in Italy when she was 16. She then was fortunate enough to have received financial support from both Mr Shelby Davis and Colby College and gained her BA in Theatre and Dance in Colby College, Maine, USA, where she graduated with Phi Beta Kappa and was awarded the Theatre and Dance Award. During her undergraduate study, she went to Drama Centre London to further her acting training in 2006, and also finished an internship with Green Candle Dance Company in London in 2005.

   She returned to Hong Kong in 2007 and started her journey as an actress, drama teacher, and theatre artist in her home town. She graduated from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with an MFA in Drama (major in Acting) in 2011 and was invited to join Chung Ying Theatre Company as a resident artist from 2012-2016. She is now working as a freelance theatre artist in Hong Kong. Not only she is a stage actress, but she also participated in both commercial and independent movies, TV and TVC productions. She is also a very active drama teacher in Hong Kong. She worked with many different schools and organizations to develop different drama and musical theatre programmes, both in English and Chinese, for students of all ages. She is also specialised in teaching Drama-in-education programmes, especially for planning drama programmes for ESL students to learn English through Drama.

   Being a mother to a super energetic and curious young boy, she hopes to use drama as a tool to bring joy and fun to the younger generation. Also being an experienced drama teacher in Hong Kong, she strongly believes that drama is a powerful tool to communicate with the youth. With this in mind, she started her own company He She Play Drama Lab in 2019, aiming to promote drama education and wellness programs to children at all ages. 

   Siuman is also a keen Yogi. She received her RCYT registered Yoga Alliance course in Kids Yoga Teacher Training with Divine Light Yoga in 2019 and is now training to become a registered yoga alliance 200 hours yoga teacher in 2021. She is hoping to bring new perspectives to her acting and teaching through her other passions in life, to make her become a more all-rounded, and also an interesting performer.
