Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Studio Theatre

24 is a devised theatre piece commissioned and presented by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts  applied learning programme. The 24 actors went through a two years drama programme, and this devised theatre piece was their final project. They attended a eight full days intensive workshop and devised this piece from zero to a whole production with sound, light, and costume. Under my guideline, they explored the theme of "death." We then came up with a question "what would you do if you were told that your life is coming to an end in 24 hours?" We spent the first day doing research oh death and finding out what they meant to be dying, and what they treasured the most in lives, and then the next two days on devising their whole script. Then we had two days to put on the pieces together because the 6th day was the run through of the whole programme (24 was one of the three performances of the night). Sound, light, costume and set were also created during the process as a collective effort. Dressed Rehearsal as on the 7th day and show on the 8th day.
It was one of the most challenging directing piece because of the time frame, but it was also one of the most interesting one because it pushed the youngsters to the fullest. Through this 8 days programme, they also gained a lot . I believed that it was a life-long experience for both my students and I.

With the use of computer graphic effects and high-tech multimedia imagery complimented with impressive lighting and set designs, this play has created a one-of-a-kind visual experience that has never been seen on stage, earning tremendous applause from the audiences.
